Selfish leadership is okay with the failure of the successor so as to ensure that any form of praise will continue to be heaped on them

About This Quote

A study done at the University of Chicago and the Hong Kong University found that when a leader is selfish, they are likely to become more successful in their next position. The same study found that when leaders are very generous, they don’t get rewarded for being so. In other words, when a leader is selfish, you can expect them to do well in their next position. This is good news for the current leader, who gets to keep his or her job.

However, when a leader is very generous with their praise, it becomes a problem for the people in the next position. Since no one will be able to rise above them to take over, they won’t be able to get any of the benefits of being a leader. In other words, if you want to become a leader in your field, make sure you don’t be too generous with your praise.
